Hiya I think its just an old wives tale when your mum usually says "you must have worms" because your still hungry or wanting more food as a kid.
The only symptons you usually have are itching around your bottom and night when the worms come out to lay eggs around ya bottom and you may see them when you go to the toilet.
if a child has a really heavy burden or infestation of worms they can get that bloated pot belly look, but this is usually only in severe cases
hope that helps!

Children normally have no symptoms of worms other than itching around the anus, worse at night when the worms come out to lay their eggs.
Infestation is usually diagnosed by actually seeing the worms when the child has a bowel movement. They look like threads of cotton.
A single dose of medicine is usually all it takes to clear the problem.

Shouldn't do-the worms(threadworms) live in the large intestine and the childs' food would've been absorbed in the small intestine first before passing into the large intestine. All that happens in the large intestine is water is absorbed into the body,so,no,it shouldn't make them feel hungry. A sign that your child has threadworms is an itchy bottom at night time...and of course, little white worms, about 7mm long, in their poo..

Thread worms? Can make a child hungrier or put em off food. Makes em irritable too. Horrible little things (worms I mean). You can put thread worms in google search and it tells you that they can affect a childs appetite. Ovex tablets will get rid in one dose. Wash all bedding thoroughly and iron it too. cut child's nails to prevent them swallowing eggs and re infestation occurring

Worms do make you more hungary its not just an old wives tale. They feed of you and take the nutrients out of the food you eat. Your body then craves for more nutrients so you eat more to replace them. They live in your intestines and around the anus and can visibly be seen in your poo.
