I am sick and tired of people making judgement on Mel Gibson.
He has not been the only person to be intoxicated, nor is he the first to say stupid things while drunk.
Even so what ever happened to freedom of speech.
Mel is an Aussie and so am I. He has made many good movies.
I am proud of him.

As an American I'm very proud of him as well, The Passion of the Christ was one of the BEST movies ever...Innocent until proved otherwise and it's every bodies business because of the darn media...Leave the man alone!!!

I wish people would stop making a big deal about it. I'm not a big Gibson fan I like The Passion and the Lethal Weapon movies but I'm tired of turning on the TV or radio and Mel Gibson Mel Gibson. LEAVE THE MAN ALONE!! No one knows what he might be going through and he maybe just felt like getting drunk. I feel bad for celebrities always in the limelight constantly judged. I don't think his comments should of been released to the press - I'm not saying what he said was right or anything but when your drunk you say stupid things. I think I am more disgusted with Barbra Walters saying she will never watch any of his movies again. I think she should grow up. And I feel bad for him loosing movie and mini series deals - people shouldn't mix his work life with his private life its not right.

i think anyone who has followed mel gibson's career knows he is a good man. now we know he is a good man with a drinking problem. you know how the media are, they're going to play this up as long as they can, because that's what keeps them in business. i've read the articles, and my opinion of him has not changed. maybe in his normal state of mind, he has been worried about how the war israel is waging against hamas and hezbollah will affect the stabililazation efforts in iraq. in a drunken state, things you worry about become exaggerated. i don't think the things he said were the real mel gibson. some people say things when they are drunk that they don't really mean because they either want to pick a fight, or cause people to leave them alone, or blame their drinking on something they are worried about. he has apologized and is seeking treatment, and i say we leave him alone to do this.

I don't like what Mel said, but lets's face it, just because he's famous is the only reason his comments are news worthy. I think many of us have said things we regret. I figure that no matter if it's an anti-semitic remark or any other racial slur, it's not cool. This world has too much intolerance already.

Did it ever occur to you that when someone is drunk the stupid things they say come from their deepest thoughts and feelings. Drunk people don't hurl epithets that they don't think about. Also, what about driving while intoxicated? How would you feel if he caused someone (maybe one of your family members) to die because he drove drunk? Would that make you proud of him, too??? Mel can say whatever he wants (except to yell "Fire" in a theater)..., but, he has to be willing to suffer the consequences of what he says. Making good movies does not equate to being a good person. I'm happy for you that you are proud of him...personally, I would be ashamed to say I was proud of an anti-Semitic, sexist pig... But, then to each their own!

He did a dumb thing by driving while intoxicated, but as everyone knows, while intoxicated you say and do dumber things. He's being slammed so much because he's one of the top box office draws in the world. If he wasn't intoxicated, he wouldn't say such things but because of his status, he's being slammed big time. If he wasn't a big time celebrity he wouldn't be getting slammed by the media as he is now, but because he's Mel Gibson instead of Mel Whocares, he's getting it big time.

He got on the road drunk and very well could have killed someone. He obviously has a drinking problem, which is of concern with anyone, not just the rich and famous. We should all make a judgment about drunks who drive. This is not his first arrest for drunk driving. He said what he really thinks. People who get drunk still say what they are thinking. I would not be proud of a drunk driver. He insulted the female officer, made anti-Semitic remarks and bragged about being powerful and being able to get even with the police officers. This is not a nice person, he is not someone to admire. He should have called for a cab to drive him home instead of getting behind the wheel of a car. He can afford to hire a cab, but he felt he was above the law.

Are you implying his freedom of speech is being denied? He has not been sent to jail. The government has not & will not ban any of his movies. People who are offended by his statements may choose to express their opinions by not going to see his movies. This possiblilty naturally limits his chances at doing business in hollywood again. But it is not a violation of his freedom of speech.

If I owned a cafe near a military base & choose to participate in an anti-military protest at the gates of the base, the word might get around & the soldiers & their family might choose never to eat at my cafe again. That is their choice & they would not be violating my freedom of speech in that choice, even if the result is my business going under. Freedom of speech is not a promise there will be no effects of what I choose to say.

And many people choose what movie to go see as much on the image of the performers as the performances themselves. If an artist's image changes, that will naturally change they're popularity.

I think anyone who bashes Mel for what he did needs to take a very close look at their own religon. Doesn't religon teach that you should forgive ? Doesn't it teach that you shall not judge ? Those who stand in judgement of him are just as guilty of non christian behavior as he is for anything he has done . If anyone thinks that one bad moment can wipe out all the good he has done, then you better hope to hell that your God doesn't judge you the same way.
