You should know by now that the U.N. is a joke. They don't want anything to do with anything that is not lining their pockets. Can you say "food for oil conspiracy"?

Any decision UN can make can be veto'd by USA. The UN does not have its own forces. The UN is made up by members of world nations including USA who has veto. Troops are called up from the member countries IF the member countries agree. Don't blame the UN. Blame the countries who do not want to follow what the majority in UN want...and use their threat of veto or the veto to stop what the majority wants.
No decent human being thinks the carnage on both sides should continue and I would surmise that the majority of countries belonging to NATO do not either.
Until nations of the world gather at the UN for the greater good of mankind and leave their own selfish ego's at the door...then the UN will not be effective. SADLY, when the UN was formed...that was the altruistic reason for its origins; and even sadder...countries now are coming to the UN table without altruism in their hearts, and basically the HEART of the UN has been lost. No do not blame the UN. Blame the countries who come to the table and are not interested in the the lives of world citizens but only of their own or their pocketbooks.

It means that it is OK to defend your country and its citizens.
Don't forget who provoked the conflict - Hamas and Hezbollah. All Hezbollah has to do is cease firing and agree to the terms of returning the kidnapped soldiers.
That's ALL they have to do. The disarming part that the U.S. and Israel want can come later. The action of returning the soldiers and ceasing to fire would put enough international pressure on Israel to halt the fighting.
Think about it. The ability to stop the madness is in the hands of those who started it. The problem that many don't seem to understand is that these terrorist organizations embrace the fighting as a glorious thing. The more civilians that die on both sides, the better off they feel they are. First, they're killing Israelis. Second, every innocent Palestinian or Lebanese civilian that dies builds more hatred towards Israel's actions (since the media is less focused on Israeli civilian casualties). This is their primary goal and its working.
Why would they stop now?

What should the UN do. Hell its not like the UN did anything to these terrorist supporting countries. They let Saddam thumb his nose to them for 11 years. Israel is just doing what they should do, why should they let countries attack them and sit on their *** and do nothing. Let Israel fight their on battles and if terrorist use hospitals, schools and other places then they deserve to be bombed. Israel was attacked first.

In a way it does mean that. But i don't think that UN aproves what israel is doing wright now. As we all saw and heard od the emergency meeting of the UN, Secretary General Mr. Kofi Anan condemned the israely overuse of military power, in other words kiling inocente citizens.

Depends what you mean by UN. If you mean the general assembly of 200+ nations than the majority condemn israel. If you mean the security council (which you probably do) then it can never condemn israel (as US always exercise veto for them).
The security council has condemned hezbollah (rightly) but used much calmer/diplomatic language for israel (wrongly).
