The 1st round rookies always seem to get paid (to me) waay more than they should. It's all based on potential, not what they've proven at the NFL level. Why not start with a reasonable base (whatever that is nowadays.....$2 per season for the first 3 years, say), and load up with performance bonuses.
If they show they can contribute right off, then they will get paid. Young is a hell of a lot more mobile than Leniart, but Leinart played in an pro-type passing offense. Not to say Young can't run it; they spread the field for him at Texas and let him work. I think Young has more big-time potential down the road, IMO.

Vincent Young, Number 3 pick overall
Matt Leinart, Number 10 pick overall
you do the math...
The reason Vince got $58 mil is because he's a QB, and QBs get paid the most followed by DE. Say Vince goes one and Williams had gone 3 instead but Mario had signed first for the same $56 mil. Vince might have got $60+ mil.
Lieinart will get his money, it just won't be Vince money. Besides the big pay day comes with the second contract...if he makes it to the second contract...

Matt Leinart is the respond. on the very initiate he will study from a brilliant Bowl triumphing quarterback in Kurt Warner. Then whilst he starts off next season, Leinart would have 2 surprising recievers and Edgerrin James on the working back place. The Arizona Cardinals often is the tension to be feared throughout the league. With the recent intense powerful offence, Matt Leinart would have extra clever stats and win the main super bowls out of those 3.

Nope, first off Leinart isn't as good as Vince and secondly Vince was the #3 pick and Leinart #10 so there is a big difference in the amount of money given.
1st overall pick gets the most, so on and so on...
Leinart's TRASH, he'll remind NFL fans of Ryan Leaf while Vince looks like Tom Brady with Mike Vick speed...Oh Gosh, what a site to see and I can't wait.

i dont beleive so. he is a good quarterback, probably better than vince as much as i hate to say that being a longhorn fan, but i mean, fact of the matter is is that they get paid by the number they were taken at. if leinart had been chosen at least with the 7th or 8th pick, then he would definitely be gettin a bit more cash. but he wasnt, and he wont get the kind of money he believes he deserves. the cardinals have signed pretty much all the other draft picks, which leaves them with limited money.

I'm a Titan fan, and what they're paying Vince Young is obscene! He'd better take us to the Super Bowl this year. Although, he's not even supposed to start...they say. Our starting QB is supposed to be Billy Volek. I guess we'll see on opening day. 58 Million is still obscene! Yea, it looks like Matt Leinart did get screwed!

Leinart is a better QB and has proven experience....He should be paid as much, if not more than Young. Young got lucky.

He took the contract... he didn't have to. I think it is smarter to take less and prove yourself rather than alienate everyone and think you're hot shtuff.
