Here are some suggestions, in no particular order.

CLASSICS:

1 The Best Years of Our Lives - one of the greatest WWII-era movies ever filmed

2 The Big Heat - great LA film noir with Glenn Ford

3 Gentleman's Agreement - Gregory Peck's best role is in this movie. (To Kill a Mockingbird is his second best.)

4 Meet Me in St. Louis - one of the best musicals from MGM's glory days

MORE RECENT:

5 The Count of Monte Cristo - the one with Jim Caviezel

6 The Dish - a funny Australian movie that also captures the wonder and magic of the Apollo moon landing

7 Twister - the first movie ever released to DVD is bound to be an adventure classic

8 My Date with Drew - hysterical and uplifting documentary regarding an average Joe's attempts to hook up with Drew Barrymore

9 The Shawshank Redemption - Stephen King's best adaptation to the big screen. Brilliant film.

Happy screening!

It depends on your mood, but if you want to see something, beautiful, funny, moving and different I'd recommend "The Cave of the Yellow Dog" which is from Monglia. Do not be put off because it is a foreign film please, it is magic.
I saw this at the cinema recently so it should be around on D.V.D.
