My boyfriend and I have been feeding peanuts to a squirrel over the past couple weeksAny way...this baby squirrel has been hiding some of these peanuts around the yard...sometimes digging right in the middle of lawn. Will this cause permanant damage??
We haven't gotten to the point of feeding him by hand yet but the squirrrel keeps getting a bit closer each time can he make us sick??

You mat think he is cute now but just wait. Squirrels have fleas abd can carry rabies. Also, if they get in your attic they love to chew electrical wires abn burrow in the insulation..Also, squirrrels will rob bird eggs from nests and even kill and eat the baby birds.
If you hve abything in a storage shed that you value make sure the shed is squirrel proof. They also like to dig up yours flowers just for the fun of it. They are very territorial and you are encouraging them to move in create future porblems. Remember they are wild animals and have no manners. The rule is never pet a wild animal and don't offer them your home.
They are burying the nuts because they are not hungry. If they remember wher they put them and dig them up your lawn will holes in it. Sometimes theey forget exactly where they buried their stash and say "I know it's around here somewhere, I just keep digging until I find it. These nice people won't care".

Sick? You can tell a rabid squirrel by it's actions. Mean, wild and sporatic. Yeah, that one could make you very sick. Squirrels are full of fleas, have you seen how much they scratch themselves? They all do. This brings fleas into your lawn and even a cold winter won't kill the eggs. You can bring these eggs and/or fleas into your home to catch onto your indoor animals or guests as they recline on your furniture! I don't encourage them in my yard, as cute as they are....and peanuts won't hurt your lawn, they are their winter food that they will dig up later. Planting the peanuts also mean that they aren't hungry or they would eat them! Easy does it, peanuts aren't cheap and most of the peanuts won't be found anyways. Great entertainment for you, anyways.
