The museum and art gallery are OK, also ThinkTank and IMax at Millennium Point. There are some top class theatres, Symphony Hall and the Royal Ballet. Sea Life Centre is good. See what is on at the National Indoor Arena or the Arena at the NEC.
Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston.
For historic buildings go to Aston Hall (by Villa Park stadium) and there are lots of National Trust properties within an hours drive. Try Coughton Court, Baddesley Clinton, Hanbury Hall, Attingham Park, Dudmaston Hall.
Theme Park at Drayton Manor or Alton Towers a bit further.
West Midlands Safari Park at Bewdley.
Severn Valley steam railway at Kidderminster.
Shopping at Bull Ring or Merry Hill.
Buy some jewellry in the Jewellry Quarter.
The football season is starting so you have Birmingham City, Villa , West Brom, Wolves, Walsall.
Cricket at Edgbaston or Worcester.
Try Worcester (cathedral) or the Shropshire hills (Church Stretton).
Nip over to Coventry or Lichfield to look at the cathedrals.

Aston Hall, a Jacobean-style mansion in Aston, Birmingham, completed in 1635
Blakesley Hall, a Tudor hall on Blakesley Road in Yardley, Birmingham. It is one of the oldest buildings in Yardley.
Edgbaston Hall, a country house (albeit now in the middle of the city) in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham

If you like castles I can recommend Warwick Castle or Kenilworth Castle, both within easy reach of Birmingham.
