All hormones produced by the adrenal cortex influence fluid retention one way or the other -these are :
1.Aldosterone
2,Cortisol
They produce opposite effects - cortisol causes fluid retention while aldosterone causes fluid loss in response to the Renin/Angiotensin system.
3.ADH -anti-diuretic hormone (also called Vasopressin) is another hormone that affects fluid balance by causing sodium and therefore fluid retention.lt is produced by the hypothalamus
4.Progesterone, the female hormone produced during pregnancy and the latter part of the normal menstrual cycle,also causes some degree of water retention.This is why a lot of women feel bloated prior to or during their periods or pregnancy..
