"Why is it so difficult to decide what you want to do with your life?"

ANSWER: These are the reasons, not necessarily in order of importance:

1. Most humans have too many choices. The more choices that you have of what to do --the more difficult it is to choose. Remember when there were only 3 flavors of ice cream? -Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. Ahh, the choice was easy. Now, you go into an ice cream store and the typical store has about 100 choices of flavors and variations of flavors.

So, instead of trying to choose one thing, first narrow your choices down to a few, and then choose later after great thoughts about it.

2. It's difficult to choose, also, because we know that our choice will most likely affect every part of our life and possibly even those around us. So, we have more things to consider than just considering "what" we want to do.

3. Monetary things and physical things make our choices difficult. Sometimes we might think we know what we want to do, but we stil feel like we cannot decide because our monetary situation prevents us from doing what we really want to do in life.

4. Time and location constraints: There are many of us who specifically know what we want to do but still cannot decide because we need to consider our financial situations BEFORE deciding what we want to do. (i.e. Some of us might want to be doctors or lawyers or teachers but we might not have the money for the education or we might live out in the country with no access to education. Therefore, when our first choices of what we want to do are pulled to a stop before we begin, then we find it's difficult to choose or decide what we want to do with our lives.

5. Lots of times , our history , or religion or family background stop us from deciding. Suppose you come from a family where all the boys became priests and you want to be a rock star. Decisions like these are so difficult because we are breaking from tradition and sometimes breaking from tradition makes it difficult for us to decide what we want to do with our lives.

6. Last but not least, and perhaps the most powerful here, our parents and our society around us sometimes makes it difficult for us to decide what we want to do because AFTER we've made our silent secret choices, then we discover that our parents or society doesn't approve of us so we find it so difficult to make those decisions. For example, if a man or woman is homosexual and they are living in a city where homosexuality is banned or thought bad of --then that person will find it difficult to make the right decision for their life ---because of enexpected demands on them and due to unnecessary, unwanted pressure from the parents or from society.

So, in summary, all these things make our decisions difficult:

money, society, parents, lack of money and lack of location, peer pressure, family history and background, and many other factors.

Some books to read to overcome these pressures and to begin making your very own educated and wise decisions are these:

1. YOUR ERRONEOUS ZONES --Wayne W. Dyer, PH.D.

2. THE FOUR AGREEMENTS -- Miguel Ruiz

3. Any book by Thich Nhat Hanh

4. If it's going to be it's up to me - Robert Schuller

Check with your librarian and ask them for books that help people make wise decisions and you'll find that your librarian can be quite helpful in this matter.

I am so glad to meet another person with the same question. Mostly, I asked myself this question when I was having rough time in my life, and there were lots of it!!!

In a way, taking a bright side, it is good that we don't have exactly answer; life would be boring if everything turn out the way we had planend it.

My thought is: follow the dream / desire in your heart and give it a best shot and try to enjoy the process rather than outcome. Because it might not turn out the way we have wanted, it doesn't mean we should spoil the time we put in.

We can still try to enjoy the time we've spend in reaching our goal. Like many great story, the best part is always how those charaters doing their best to overcome many hardship. Likewise, we won't know how our story would end but we certainly can experience life if we truly live.

Diverse expectations from life !
Just drop all expectations, and try for a day, living as if you don't expect anything what so ever, and accept things as they are, letting the situation to decide what you should do, and do accordingly ! See how it feels, if it works, slowly extend the time, etc, else , keep looking for a better way.

Coz if it were easy then there would be no adventure in life. Life is about choices and taking risks... it'd be boring without these things!

you overestimate your capabilities. this leads you with too many choices. come to grips with reality and you won't have much of a problem. the reality is, there isn't much you can do.

the underlying cause: delusions of grandeur. you think of yourself as important complicated being who has far more possibilities open than you actually do

if u face a problem in ur life then ur heart given diffrent statement and ur mind given different statement. so always lisin to ur mind. because if u lisin from ur heart u may get into problem and the end result may be negative. but if u lisin from ur mind then may be u face some difficulities but the final result be always positive. so always lisin from ur mind not from ur hart.

we generally tend to follow the guidelines set by the society, which implies that we tend to create for ourselves targets which are not in tune with what we want to do infact with our life.
So , be true to yourself and follow your heart in deciding what you want to do with your life and ultimately you will notice that all your confusions will be cleared.
