See the baby's pediatrician promptly to find out what is wrong and to treat for dehydration and undernourishment. Also, my mom worked for The Mothers' Milk Bank for several years and said that the baby could be allergic to a food the mother is eating so check that out. She said they had requests for milk from donors who did not eat certain things, but unfortunately, they couldn't do that since milk was mixed from several donors. Also, she said it could be an exaggerated gag reflex or a reflux disease. Maybe bottle feeding will help if the baby has problems with breast feeding. Also, vomiting may be a sign of something else, like an infection or digestion problems not already mentioned.

I'd try La Leche League for immediate advice.

National Childbirth Trust: 0870 444 8708 (8am-10pm)
La Leche League: 020 7242 1278 (24 hours)
Breastfeeding Network: 0870 900 8787 (9.30am-9.30pm)
Association of Breastfeeding Mothers: 0870 401 7711

These two groups are really good for providing breastfeeding advice.

A doctor is not the expert on breastfeeding, your hospital may (should) have a bf counsellor. Phone your hospital and ask for them.

'Sounds like reflux to me too. Anything I've ever read on it says that BF is still absolutely best because the baby has a better chance of digesting more volume before chucking it's BM feed back up again.'

If there's a problem with the baby's stomach, giving formula milk is not neccessarily going to be the answer as it's considered to cause damage to the stomach lining.

What do you mean by "not thriving"? Is the baby underweight? Is the fontanelle depressed? Breast milk can be very rich and babies can regurgitate. Also miserable babies might overfeed, causing them to bring up the excess milk.
Most doctors don't mind being phoned because of problems with a small baby. The danger is they might dehydrate. Please phone your midwife, health visitor, and if you can't reach them, your doctor.

Start bottle feeding. You have to get the feeds in to your child as soon as possible. Don't feel harrased to breat feed. The most important thing is the well being of the baby. If he is still bringing that up you need to get in touch with your health visitor

This is a common problem in some babies. as long as the baby is taking the milk in to its tummy it is taking all the goodness out. dont worry the baby will grow out of this. if you are worried go to GP.

make sure you make the baby upright after breast feeding so that he / she can burp. dont make the baby lie down till burping.
(if he / she is old enough needs to sit up rather than lie down)

pls see a doctor soon
