1. Size does matter. Some External HDDs are big (like Western Digital Makes). It makes them hard to carry and easily they get noticed. So look for smaller sized HDDs (some that would fit in your pocket).
2. Power Options: Powered by a USB Cable is best. Its easy and no plug point is required.
3. USB 2.0 Compatible: Ensure that your external HDDs is USB 2.0 Compatible.
4. Ensure that it has a hard shell cover. It protects against shocks.

a everyday not user-friendly stress can slot in an enclosure and then paintings like a USB stress, this could be greater much less costly, fairly pondering as you basically might desire to purchase the enclosure as quickly as and can greater healthy an limitless quantity of drives. in the journey that your hardware helps it, you quite need an eSATA, if it does not, then firewire, and if it does not help that, USB. decide for SATA on the stress, and that i'm not too advantageous on the producer, have not had lots adventure on them, a stress is a stress.

Get one that isn't firewire or usb powered.
ie. Make sure it's powered by a wall socket.
USB/ Firewire powered external HDD tend to overheat.
I personally think 'Maxtor' are a good reliable brand.
