Will Oil run out? No way, we have more than we will ever use. Will gas price increases make alternative energy a less expensive way to meet the needs of our nation? No, not at present . Even if we started using less oil for fuels for cars, trucks and airplanes we still use it for plastics, make-up, lubricants, etc. As the demand dropped for oil the prices would too and then it would be the cheaper option. The benefit might be cleaner air. Even that is only a possibility and would take a major shift in the way we live and use energy. Lower green house gasses? No matter what we burn like ethanol and other hydrocarbons, they all produce carbon dioxide , and continue to create the heavy gasses that hold heat longer and assist in Global warming. The only ones that may eventually help are in the Solar power group, and the Wind power generating systems. there is also a newer way of generating power and that is the oceans, either tidal flow or wave power. Keep asking though, then maybe you can figure out even better ways to provide the power we have come to rely on so much, even to power this Computer.

alternative sources of what?

in general, if you only have 1 source of something, then if your only source has a problem, then you're in deep s*** (in trouble). So you usually try and find alternative sources of everything so that if 1 source fails, you still have the others.

If you don't explain what kind of source you're talking about, it's all anyone will ever be able to tell you on this subject.
