Get an ice cube or freeze a cup of water and set the cup on the gum. After it has time to get very cold due to the ice, it will become brittle and easily break away from the carpet.

Put ice on it and when the gum is frozen it will just chip off the carpet

for the freezingtrick to work better - place a paper towel between the carpet and the ice, that will usually make it freeze to the paper towel, then you're done!

You place an ice cube on it and let it freeze. If one doesn't work, use 2. Then it will chip off. May take repeated treatments. Good Luck!
