Ok, ok.. no more NERO.. I need a program which will create a DVD style video disk.. not just the file on a disk.. the problem is WinDVD has to ply the whole movie and then it burns it.. and by that time it usually frezes...

I use TmpEnc. It's quite fast and it's a freeware. I also decompress the audio to pcm( it's very fast)to gain additional speed. Doing video is more on hardware intensive than software. Since I dont' have a powerful PC, I encode before I go to bed and when I wake up, it's ready.

My 'best practice' is to scan the avi. for corrupt frames before encoding.

For my own video I mainly use Vegas and DVD architect.

I use "Nero". The speed limits are often given by the drive's maximum writing speed and/or the media maximum writing speed. So, before looking for a faster program, make sure your drive can burn DVDs at a higher speed that it does now and the discs you use support burning at a higher speed. Otherwise it would be a waste of time and money.
