several criteria.. When looking for a name for a cat, certainly if you are trying to be unique don't go with any cliche names such as garfield or whatever. I found a mini baby naming book in the check out line at target, and was just looking through that. use alliteration( same first letters of your last name and the cats first name) For example, catchy name like, Lindsay Lohan. Also, you could do something fun like adding a Mr/Mrs. Ms. Dr. or what ever title before the name. My friends fat cat is named Mr. Fred. Simple enough. You also want your pets name to be something easily associated, so they can learn their own name. some like mr. bojangles is funny, but hard to learn. Also try your favorite rock group's front man/woman. Use their name, i.e. if your a Phish fan, Trey Anastatio, your cat could be Trey. Thats all I have for now... Try that.

I named my cat Hallelujah, because I'd always wanted to stand in my front door and yell "Hallelujah!" out into the street. I've been doing that for eleven years now, and still get a kick out of it. LOL.

Seriously though, naming your cat should generally be something that either describes the cat or fits the personality. Stay away from the over-used names, like Fluffy. Think originally. There will be time enough for the drab boring names when you have kids and they get to name them.

We had a cat once that was black and white, so we named her Domino. Willow was another, and she had a long sleek body with the coloring of autumn leaves. Coal was all black, and his son that looked just like him, we named Ditto. We had a yellow tabby once that had a very kingly bearing, so we named him Herod, after a king in the Bible (we thought it went well with Hallelujah). There was also an uncommonly lady-like cat that had a streak of stubborn independence, and we named her Miss Scarlett.

So pay attention to the cat, and let your imagination get involved. You'll both be happier with the results.

Well I have two cats that are sisters named Mia and Tia but there are no "good" names. Pick something that has some meaning to you. The way I named my cats is I love the movie Pulp Fiction and Uma Thurman's character Mia in it and I thought this would be a great name for a cat so that's how I got Mia. I picked Tia second because it complimented Mia nicely considering they are sisters.

Some advice though: Pick a short name, preferably one with one or two syllables because any more than this and you are just going to end up giving its "full name" a shorter one or two syllable nickname.

Since I have 30 cats, what ya have to do is first really look at them, their coloring, fur, attitude, personality etc. For example if your cat is all white with a sweet personality, a good name might be snowball. I have an all white female cat that is a nasty, hissing bit*h, so her name is Snowbit*h! See what I mean? Get to know your cat and soon the perfect name will come to you!

my two ferals are nicknamed Seek and Destroy. You have to choose the name to match the character even if it means calling it 'cat' for the first week or so

i have three special cute loveabble kittens:

there names are:
afrika-the only girl, the eldest, the most curious, and the most mature...her skin just looks like all the cat races in the jungle you can find...panther...cheetah...tiger...you name it!

yoda-next in line, and the most cuddlish type...because every now and then when he sees you sitting on the sofa...he'll just go right ahead and cuddle next to you...because he looks like yoda...no kidding!!

gizmo-the youngest...because he looks like those cute little gizmos

so, i guess...you'll know what to call them..in time
to be honest...when i haven't found their right names yet...
i used to call afrika..no. 1, being the first that opened its eyes...yoda...no.2...and gizmo...no.3, the last to open his eyes
