somebody told me that...was he delusional?

No, he wasn't delusional. There could be many reasons. One might be that as people age, they come to accept themselves for who they are. It takes a lot of tension out of life if you don't have to put on a facade, or pretend to be other than what you are!
It is very difficult to be young, especially today. At the same time as young people are concerned with establishing careers, and completing university studies, their bodies are in an hormonal turmoil that tells them it's time to get attached, settle down and start raising the next generation. Too much to do, all at once! As they get a little older, they realize they don't have to do everything right now. Some things can wait -- and are better for the waiting!
Older people appreciate that, and enjoy life as it is, rather than as they wish it were.
Today, too, older people are healthier. They go back to university, they take up new hobbies and interests, the world of sport and recreation opens to them (did you know there are World Master Games, for senior athletes, that take in over 100 different activities?) and things they once thought impossible are now do-able.
But life is good at any age, if you make it so.

Your perspective of life changes as you continue to collect more date or life experiences. At age two, you brain was pretty much a blank slate. As each year passed, you add to that slate and filter your view of the world through those experiences, but even in our lifetime, we will never come close to what all we can learn. Science has determined that we can store 10,000 years worth of data in our brains. Imagine what it would be like viewing the world after storing nearly that much?

Not neccessarily. If you learn how to use it, the perspective and wisdom of a few years may allow you to look at the same things with a new appreciation and humor. The only thing that you can greatly change is yourself, and that changes everything.

Unless you have serious health problems, yes, I believe that this is true.

You know how to deal with life, with yourself and with other people better and make wiser choices.

You know what you like and what you want and make better use of your time and of your money and don't waste them with people or things that are not important for you.

You know what you do not like and what you do not want and try your best to keep these away from you.

Well, that's the theory of it, anyway.;)

Because you begin to gain wisdom, and realize that life isn't only about yourself. You see things much more clearly when you get older, and start to understand much more clearly what it's all about. Does that make any sense? :)

It doesn't get better and better for everyone of course; it really depends on your attitude. Keeping a positive attitude is key I think.

Life gets easier the older you get until you get so old that you forget all that you have already learned. You go from being dependent on your parents to being dependent on your children, and in the middle you forget that it won't last forever. "Somebody" must have been in the middle.
