Try downloading the yahoo tool bar. It has both addware remover and a pop-up blocker. I have been using it for a year now and love it.

Adaware and Microsoft antispy...use both to get the best coverage, sometimes things slip thru one, but not both.
Panicware.com has a free version of Pop Up Stopper. The single best that I've used.

Use Mozilla's browser called FireFox and you won't have near as many popups. Most days I don't have any popups in fact. Also get AdAware, a free program that will check your system for tracking cookies and much more. Also get AVG antivirus program, also free.

Windows Defender is good, Spysweeper is also good, Bit Defender is the best but it costs money
Adaware puts its own Adware on your computer, don't use it
Firefox is bulky and made poorly, IE is good, but if you don't want to use it try Opera, or in my opinion Avant Browser is the best one, it blocks 99.9% of pop-ups, i should know i use it and i'm on my computer every day for hours.

Use AdAware
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/
Use Smart Popup Blocker
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Smart_Popup_Blocker/smartpopupblocker.html
both are free
Also use McAfee Site Advisor
http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ie.html
It's free and it will warn you about sites that have spyware, popups etc .
