Magnification m= q/p
p- distance to the object
q – imaginary distance to image

Focal length = 16cm
Image formed at 48cm

q=mp=24 (2) =48 cm

1/f=1/q+1/p

f = pq/(q+p)=(24)(48)/(48 + 24)=
=1152/72=16 cm

That should do it.
