density is a measure of mass per unit of volume. The average density of an object equals it's total mass divided by it's total volume. The symbol of density is the greek letter rho (which I don't have on my keyboard so I'm using the letter p instead of the symbol for rho)

p = M / V (where mass is in grams or kilograms or in pounds and volume is in cubic meters or cubic feet). This is the classic equation.

There is a more theoretical definition and equation where density can be calculated based on crystallographic information and molar mass. If you are interested in this equation or further info on density visit the url listed below.

By the way is this a serious question or are you really looking for a humorous answer like:

density is equal to the number of people answering a yahoo question when they know nothing about the subject divided by the number of people reading these answers and believing them

density is the mass per unit volume.
the equation is

p=m/v
p (actually it is a greek letter called rho and it looks like a p) is the density.
m= the mass
v= the volume

thus, things that are small and relatively heavy have a higher density. Lead, for example, would have a much higher density than say, styrofoam.

One thing that is extremely dense: my BRAIN!! :-)
Not much can get through to it :-)

Density is the amount of mass per volume. So the equation to find would be mass divided by volume.
