hi, i am looking for a breif history of loveseat. if i am correct, loveseat was a product of the Rococo. It was built for the ladies during that period because their dresses were too big to fit into armchairs. Those are the only info I have. I appreciate any other answers. Thanks!

You are partially right , the love seat began as a courting bench . it was separated by the back of the bench and the seat was turned in opposite directions . The bench was designed to give the two people who were courting an opportunity to talk without touching . As time evolved the bench was covered and then it was designed for the two lovers to sit sided by side with a arm rest to separate them . During the Rocco era the courting rituals were relaxed and the love seat was born .

A designer for Broyhill, Inc was visiting his ailing grandmother in Branchville, South Carolina. He saw many people using two seat porch swings during cool spring nights. One evening he saw a young couple, who were obviously in love, kissing as they were sitting on the two-seat porch swing. This gave his the idea of the two-seat sofa, called the love-seat.
