The same thing that would happen if the Black girl had shot him. He should be tried in a court of law, convicted, sent to a youth detention center until he turns 18, and then transferred to an adult facility to finish serving his 15 to 20.

I think there are a few factors that need to be considered before it can be decided what should happen to the boy. First, let me say that it is a horrible situation. A child psychologist needs to talk with the boy and figure out whether he knew what was going on. Was he intentionally trying to hurt the girl? Did he know the gun was real or did he think it was a toy? Was he just playing a game? These are questions that need to be answered. No matter what the answers are I don't think jail time is the answer (even in a juvenile detention facility). I don't think a six year old is capable of understanding the wrong that he commited here. No matter what the answers are I think he needs counseling. Even if it was an accident, one day he's going to realize what he did and it could be potentially devastating. If it wasn't an accident, then he needs the counseling to help get rid of all the anger that should never be in a six year old body. I don't know the exact circumstances, but I don't think race should be one of the factors considered. One more thing, I think that if this wasn't an accident, then somebody might want to take a look at the parents. Did they somehow allow this to happen? I hate to blame the parents without knowing the circumstances, but if the boy did in fact intend harm to the girl, why was he so angry? Where did he learn it?

It's hard to believe the gun was found on the ground. Ethnicity should never be an issue, but I know it will be, it always is. Sadly, the boy will go to psych, not understanding what he has done, where he will learn to be a better criminal, the next time. I am serious on this matter. He will stay there till he is 18 & then may (or may not) go into the penal system, until he is converted-------into an even better criminal. If he was allowed to stay at home with his parents and have counseling, things would be much different (maybe). Who really knows in situations like these? He's 6. Counsel him and let him go home. But that is never the way it will play out. Did this really happen?

If the boy was raised with an appropriate amount of guidance, he would not play with guns, he would contact an adult... but, since you put conditions on the scenario, it should be ascertained if the boy knew shooting people is wrong and/or if he knew what killing means... if he did, he should be rewarded with the death penalty, if not, other measures should be enacted. Race has NOTHING to do with it, wrong is wrong, and how the people in the area feel should not enter into the decision at all. Then there is the matter of dealing with the person who left the gun on the ground, if they can be positively identified.

A boy of 6 years old doesn't understand guns kill for real. They have seen lots of video games and movies where people play with guns and it is okay.. That is a tragedy!! He is probably going to need some counseling for the rest of his life cause his childhood and innocence got cut abruptly.. I guess he learned the hard way reality and life. Sorry for both parts!!

In my country, police would search the owner of the gun and the owner would be punished. The child sent to a psy.
