After taking after-morning pills, are they meant to cause bleeding a few days later? It's definately not the monthly menstrual cycle coz it comes a week or two after the bleeding.

Since the morning after pill contains high amounts of female hormones, the pill can cause a number of small side effects: nausea, vomiting, headaches, abdominal pain, breast tenderness, dizziness, fatigue.,DELAY IN MENSES,IRREGULAR VAGINAL BLEEDING,or HEAVY MENSTRUATION.

After morning pills are used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. Such pills have been shown to inhibit or delay an egg from being released from the ovary when taken before ovulation. They also may prevent sperm and egg from uniting or stop a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. They do not interfere with an established pregnancy.

Hormonal changes largely affect your menstrual cycle. After morning pills contain high female hormones which definitely affect your cycle so that is why your cycle is coming out of the expected dates. It is a usual side effect which will be resolved in due time.

They don't always kick-start your period, but yes, the morning after pill can often cause "break-through bleeding" which is what you're experiencing. It's not really anything to be worried about.

And if you're taking the morning after pill often enough that you notice a pattern, you may want to consider a normal birth control method like The Pill. And condoms. :\

yes - that happened to me too - it almost lasted as long as a period but lighter - then u will probably get your period regular time. Good pill - bad side effect but worth it... did u hear today that it will now be sold over the counter? It's about time! I can't belive they approved it. *shocked* but good - The bleeding is from the uterus shedding - how it prevents the pregnancy - doesn't screw up ur hormones or throw off ur cycle really - really very safe.

If you take the moning after pill, and start to bleen it is because if is making the uterus shed it lining so the egg cannot attach. or it is because it was taken in the early days of a pregnancy.. in either case.. it is doing it job.. shedding the lining and stopping the fertalized egg from attaching.. Also..it should no be used for birthcontrol. too much use and you could wind up not being able to have children. be careful and best wishes.

Yes, including nausea and vomiting. The FDA is awaiting approval to make this an over-the-counter medication. The response by kc & others is why this move is a controversial one; it is not something to rejoice over and should not be used in place of primary birth control measures.

Yup. They cause you to start your period. It screws up your hormones and what you experienced is perfectly natural.
