I need advice as to how to approach a script! How can I look at a script and see potential... rather than confusing words?

Use your eyes. It's very similar to a book but there are a lot more spaces on the page.

don't get overwhelmed!!!

Just take a breath, focus, and go line by line.

Good luck.

Are you an actor, director, or producer?

Anyway, get a few friends together to have a run through and see how the characters interact with each other. Even pros find it helpful.

Film/TV scripts will differ from theatre scripts. Theatre scripts will include stage directions, while the others will provide setting details and camera angles for mood and technical considerations. Research the terminology and it'll be easier to get to the "meat" of the script (plot and characters).

Break a leg!

A read-through with a group, at least one voice for each character and, ideally, someone to read stage directions, is a first class way to go. It is also fun.

Try to imagine the scene, the setting, the movement and the props that the stage directions detail as you go.

By their dialogue you should get a feel for the nature of the characters as well.

Scripts are visual. if you can see the movie playing out as you read it and it makes sense it might have potential.

This is kind of hard to explain. You read the words, but also look at the people saying them, and where they are and all that. It's a lot of visualising...?

I find it easier if I try to figure out each person's mess. If you understand their delimas and how they get out of it it helps.

read by subject matter.. OR.. pray first...open the scriptures with a question in mind.. and read... usually you get the answer to your question if you prayed first.

Read it aloud, with different voices if necessary.
