The U.S. incarceration rate for men is 3 times that of women. Is this due more to biological or societal...?

Why?Why the incarceration rates for men is three times higher than women can be because of a couple of reasons, well atleast they apply here :)

1) Differences in the types of crimes being committed.

Men tend to commit the more violent crimes that are deemed punishable with imprisonment. So we are talking burglary, armed robbery, rape or murder. Women tend to commit 'lesser' crimes like dishonesty offenses.

Here, our country has seen a large jump in numbers of women who are getting traffic offences, speeding, driving while under the influence. So while they are still crimes, they are not generally given prison sentences unless they are a major repeat offender.

That's not to say men don't commit the same crimes, but there are more men who commit the more serious acts that society deems punishable with imprisonment.

2) Certainly here women are more likely to be seen as victims or as being unable to clearly distinguish right from wrong through drugs or whatever.

Women are three times more likely than men to get suspended sentences here and are three times more likely to get community work.

They are also paroled sooner than men and their sentences are much shorter.

3) Some types of female offending may not be reported.

Despite what modern media may portray, women are just as likely to be the perpertrators of domestic violence as they are likely to be the victims.

But men who are victims do not always report this because of the way society sees men and if no crime is reported there is nothing that can be done.

No link has ever been proven that violent games and other media cause violence. Recent attempts by lawmakers in the United States to have bans and such placed on video games have failed in part because the evidence provided by the 'experts' has shown no direct link of this fact that they claim to exist.

Causes are societal, I am not trying to explain every case with the following but go to killology.com,and see what efects has clasical and operational onditioning thru games, tv series with higher violence on young population.
I have not seen that woman love action, war movies and series or that the love to play CS .
They are more oriented to love stories.

So man are more conditioned in modern media society to violently react because their borders of sanity are erased.

Probably a bit of both, most males are conditioned by society to be more aggressive than females and men have more testosterone which influences behavior a bit.

Physical - I feel that the men do more serious crimes because they can strong arm their victims.
