Doomsdayers have existed ever since people were advanced enough to speak.
We have been worrying about the end of the world for thousands of years.
The coming generations will probably think that the end of the world will come when they are old enough to be afraid of it.
People will still worry about the end of the world in 1,000,000 years.
It's built into the human psyche. (and the republican campaign).

You've made an assumption that time actually exists.
In cultural terms, for this earth, it does -- because we have timers of all types, we have different sets of periods (days, months, years etc), and we have numerous applications for measuring duration. However, time as we know it here has only those limited applications and it's always going in one direction, from the past to the future.
On a cosmological scale, disregarding our earth and solar system, what does it mean to say that Time exists? The only certainties we have are that there are countless billions of galaxies etc, and everything is in motion. That is, everything is moving, in one sense or another.
Supposing, we didn't exist (and, again from a cosmological perspective, we humans may as well be non-existent), would it matter if Time did or did not exist?
We can of course say that, based upon our feeble calculations, that the cosmos is XX billions years old, or whatever..
So? In what way is that a significant or useful piece of information, even if it is true -- which it may not be, anyway.
Can anybody prove conclusively that a cosmological Time actually does exist? No. It's beyond the best brains in the world, and much debate still exists about the existence of Time.
So, your question isn't really about time or Time -- it's about natural cycles of human endeavor, without regard to linking that with any idea of time (or Time).
Quite simply, humans tend to repeat their mistakes, with little regard for the lessons of history. The clothes change over the course of history, but the emperor is still naked, and relatively stupid.

If you think we are going to destroy the earth and you are concerned about it, do something about it.
If you think that it is inevitable enjoy the time you have left and dont worry about it, doing as much as you can to influence people about their wrong doings.
People are oblivious because the common person does not have the facts to hand or an ability to interprit these facts and why should he it is for governments to work these things out and provide us with their interpritation of the information.
It is as easy to say the world will be destroyed in the near future as it is to say the world will last forever, none of us will be around to prove it anyway.

Physical time is linear. The present passes into the past at the same rate all the time. In order to "loop" as the Greeks, also, thought, there would have to be a major disruption in physical time. The past, present and future would ????

Everything happens again and again, so yes I think that time is looping. People are born then they die, the sun comes up, the sun goes down (figuritively). I think that everything that has happened up to this point has happened before in an earlier era

We humans have always been on the brink of destruction, one way or another. How did we survive before vaccinations were invented? How did we survive the black death, or all of those wild and carnivorous animals?

i happen to think we're on a 3 dimensional plane.
i think we're getting sick of the planet and we're treating it in the vain of tradition... but tradition gets crushed over time and in this case, mother nature is much stronger than a stop watch.

if space/time is curved, then we are in a loop, perhaps you can think about no-time and then consider your question again from that perspective.
If I throw my lovely ball at a wall it bouncies comes back....
If I drop my lovely ball it bouncies back...
If I throw it up in the air it comes back..
If I pop the ball.
I can't it's too lovely.
