time travel machine and you wanted to figure out what was causing it to do that, what would you do? Suppose you thought it had something to do with the way the house was wired, how would you find out.

I can't use it to send myself because it's too small. I want to figure out how it works so I can build a bigger one. So far soup disappears and baskets of acorn mush appear.

Me?

Well,

1) Work out when it does not time-travel,to work out what is needed to get it to time travel.

eg. Does it work if I do it in a different house?

2) Work out a way of timing how far back/forward the thing goes under current conditions.

eg. Throw a clock in. And for fun, throw a chicken in, then the egg that comes in place of the chicken, then throw the chicken in that laid the egg and so on until I see what comes first, the chicken or the egg? :)

3) Then modify those conditions, one at a time, and see what effect each of them has.

Eg. Can I change how far back something goes (which I can now measure as above) by, for instance, giving it more power?

4) You then have to do mathematical stuff on the results you get. That tells you what is happening. It is a long process so I will not bore you with it.

5) I would then know both WHAT I need to make a time machine, and HOW to use the stuff I need.

I then can make machines of my own, and that is when the fun begins. :-) :) :-) :) :-)

Why, are you travelling in time via your toaster ?
Process of Elimination. The most obvious test is to take your appliance(s) to a different house that is wired differently and try to travel through time :). You could also try different appliances, or try altering the wiring in your home. After enough tests, you should narrow on the cause.

Another way is to use your appliance to time travel into the future when you have already figured out what has caused the time travelling and ask your future self. :)

I'd stick you in the oven and send you back to the charcoal age when you wouldn't have to worry about this stuff.

The "charcoal" age...HAHAHAHAHA!

I wouldn't touch anything! I'd go back to 1980 and buy $10,000 of WalMart stock.
