My stepdad has his own business on-line, and he's quite successful at it. He sells his products honestly, eBay sets an agreeable price (if you think it's too expensive, you shouldn't have bid on it and driven the price up), and his experience is transparent.
You don't have these things with a traditional store - you can't see how the previous 5,000 purchases were considered, nor can you say you have any power in determining price. Moreover, because of the economics of scale, smaller businesses are often run into the ground, while here they have a chance to thrive.
Moreover, you can buy most items here cheaper than retail.

Its good, u find unique stuff, or very cheap stuff in new or great conditions, .. sometimes people lie about the product, so if they only have one pic of the article they are showing, ask them to email u some more, i bought some clothes for my baby and the seller said it was NWOT (new without tags), that was such a lie!!! they were sooo used,.. on the other hand, i bouth some great dvds for my baby at bargain price, and they were used with no scratches, so there are bad sellers , just watch out for them.. but overall i love ebay :)
