I've wondered this too. My older son was born in the winter, and had no problems wearing a hat (similar to a stocking cap). Of course, he wasn't able to pull it off, so maybe that's why. :) As he got older and we started putting hats on him to go outside in the sun, you could forget it...he'd reach up and rip it off, so we ended up putting sun screen on his head.

My younger son is the same way...although he was born in the summer. He's a year old now, and still won't wear a hat to go outside, although he has quite a bit more hair than his older brother, so we don't worry so much with the sunscreen on his head. (His brother was nearly completely bald until he was a year old. :))

My guess would be because it feels strange to them to have something on their head. My nephew, who will be three soon, never had a problem wearing a hat from day one...he always loved them. I guess all kids are different. :)

I don't necessarily think that babies do or do not like to wear hats. I think a hat is something that gets taken off when the baby is moving around. Depending on the type of material, a hat maybe overstimulating to the child; futhermore, a baby does not have the cognitive awareness like you and I to say to tell its arm to move or remove something from his/her body.

Babies are curious to see the world around them. A Hat usually covers the view in front of their eyes, so they feel obstructed and hence they keep taking the hat off.

I hate wearing hats as well. I don't like having a warm head. Besides which hats are usually itchy.

I only wear a hat when I want to look cool.

My son hates things on his head.. Doesnt have a problem with his shoes though. You just get use to it after a bit.. My son doesnt like them unless they are daddies hats... or it messes up his hair *he has a mohawk* He's only 16 months but you swear he's older when you try to do anything invovling his hair.. He'll run from you.. its funny.
