Yes and no. In its purest form, a group of people just take a vote and go. The majority is frequently wrong, especially about technical matters. (I couldn't tell you how many times I've had to tell people not to take antibiotics for a cold...) In emotional matters, a crowd can also be very rash, leading to things like lynching or even war.
However, a well-constructed democracy (and I consider the USA to be one of these) has checks and balances to help slow things down to make sure that people have good reasons for doing the right thing, while still making sure that ordinary people have a say in what goes on. This, I like a lot.
I also like that we have a mechanism in place for a peaceful change of rulers. This was a revolutionary concept when the US implemented it in the constitution, and I'm glad it caught on in other countries.

Although the term democracy is used in reference the United States, it does not exist. The US is technically a republic, but in reality, an oligarchy, "...a form of government where most or all political power effectively rests with a small segment of society (typically the most powerful, whether by wealth, family, military strength, ruthlessness, or political influence)."
Democracy is, literally, rule by the people and comes from the Greek demos, "people," and kratos, "rule".

democracy in theory is the best way to go, but unfortunately there's no true democracy in the world. true democracy is when leaders act according to the peoples will, not according to what they want. even in the US, there is no true democracy. look at the Iraq war. when you look at the huge numbers of people who went into the streets in protests and demonstrations all over the world, according to theoretical democracy, there shouldn't have been a war in iraq! but now...hundreds of people are dying every week

The idea of democracy is great. We however live in a Republic, a Representative democracy. It has alot of holes, much corruption, and tends to drift towards corporate fascism...All together though, democracy, our republic, capitalism...its the way to go.
God bless America

Yes even with it's problems it is better than any other governmental style I see in the world. I can go anywhere I want, anytime I want, say what I want, about anything I want, buy what I want, sell what I want, work where I want, and quit my job when I want. And if I'm too lazy to do any of that some idiot will pay me welfare to sit at home on my lazy butt. I can walk around with a sign calling the leader of my country an idiot, stupid, and immoral, and they won't throw me in jail or shoot me. My wife can vote, work, drive to both, say what's on her mind ( she has no problem with that) and walk around without covering her head like she's too ugly to be seen. By my countries standard I am not rich (not even close) but by most of the Worlds standard I am. Democracy might not be perfect but show me something better.

I like democracy in a democratic republic form of government, such as the USA... but not the socialist and communist type of democracy.

It is a better form compared to monarchy, dictatorship. If someone brings controlled democracy, would be ideal for developing countries. I consider unlimited freedom in USA is the problem for its sluggishness in growth of late.

Yes. If I didn't , I would hate freedom, and I would want to live under tyranny and dictatorial rule.
