I've taught all the grades that include these ages. Having one best friend does not depend on the sex and age of a child, but rather the personality traits of the individual. Besides, it drives me crazy at school, but most children will act like they can only have one best friend, so they will make another friend and then tell the other friend they are no longer their best friend. Much hurt feelings for irrational reasons. They usually become friends again, eventually.

A 11 year old girl at a guess. When I was 11 I only had one friend, nothing has changed really I have one friend that I hardly see and an online friend that I've never meet in person yet.
