A big pot of home made beef stew, with carrots, onions, potatoes, turnips, and rudabagas! Cut a piece of beef into stew chunks, brown it, then put it in a lg. pot, add the vegetables, season to taste, cover everything with water, and 2 cups of whole milk and a 3rd. stick of butter or margarine, 2 tablespoons of flour and a teaspoon of sugar, put it on slow cook for a couple of hours and there you are! A stew fit for a king!!!!! We eat it with hot toasted wedges of buttered garlic bread! YUUUUMMMMM!!!! P.S. For dessert, you must have apple pie, it all goes together perfectly!

Beef Stew
2 lbs of beef stew meat
1 onion peeled and diced
6 stalks of celery diced
1lb of carrots peeled and sliced either into chunks or rounds
4 good size potatoes peeled and cut into small chunks
1 can of diced tomatoes about a 15oz can will do
4 cans of beef broth
1 package beef stew mix either by Lawry's or McCormick's
night before put meat tenderizer on meat put in plastic bag. get all veggies except onion and celery peeled and diced, keep in a covered bowl covered with water in frig. now I usually do mine in a crock pot, but can be cooked on stove.Early next morning turn crockpot onto high. In crock pot add 3 cans of broth, can of tomatoes , package of stew mix, mix together, add diced onion and celery, then meat and other veggies, put lid on and let cook all day long> if needed thru the day you can add other can of broth. Then just before serving to thicken broth place about 2tblsps of cornstarch into cup and about 1/4 cup of water and mix well, drizzle slowly while stirring stew and it should thicken .

cook a whole chicken with plain water until it is very soft. Cut the chicken according to how you like it in a soup. Mix chicken, garlic, scallion, ginger and a can of chicken broth with water. Cook until everything is tender.
