I'm planning to save some money. And how much does a passport cost?

There are numerous vacation packages you can choose from and purchase. It all depends on what your likes and dislikes are. If you prefer to go to a resort where there is ample entertainment and fun activities with meals and drinks included then you may consider an all-inclusive plan. if you do not eat or drink much then a European plan would be suitable (you pay for what you want only). It all depends on you ultimately.

I always purchase an all inclusive plan because I go with my family. An all inclusive plans takes the stress of worrying what to eat/drink and how much to spend away.

Some really cool resorts that I stayed at are Point Village resort in Negril, Holiday Inn in Montego Bay, FDR Pebbles in Trelawny and FDR in Runaway Bay. You can look these up and get a price quote from their individual web sites.

A typical all-inclusive five-nights vacation for one person which includes airfare and hotel can range from $800 to $1,200. the best way is to go on-line and check out their websites. Also, Delta airlines, American airlines and Air Jamaica usually have some really affordable vacation packages to Jamaica, check them out too.

Additionally, disregard all the negative crap you read from some of the people. Jamaicans are cool people and Jamaica is a beautiful tropical island with lots of fun things to do. Of course there are some trouble spots (like every place else in the world) and some poor towns, but if you were to meet the folks in these poor towns you would find that they are really warm and welcoming. I had such a privilege, one guy who was an attendant at a lodge we stayed at, stopped us when we were leaving on the road out and gave us a box of bananas from his little farm. Now if an unselfish act like that does not warm your heart I do not know what would. This fellow gave us the banana without wanting anything in return, he was just a cool dude. The people who work at the hotels and resorts are very accomodating and friendly too. Jamaicans are nice and friendly, all you have to do when you are there is be respectful of the jamaicans and their country (check all American-attitudes at the airport of departure and you'll be fine).

As for the passport, a few years back I got for my kids and they were about $65 US each. I do not know what they cost now. Some designated post offices process passport applications. Check with your local post office and they would be able to help you. Or go online to US passport services.

Good luck and I hope you find a great deal :)

I love Jamaica. Mostly I have stayed in Negril...but last time I stayed in Treasure Beach which is much quieter. Jamaica can be farily cheap if you don't eat at the big hotels. The exchange rate now is about 65Ja to 1 Us dollar. Eat at the local shacks. They might not look great but I have never had a problem and you get the best deal. An USA passport is about $90.
There are many hotel deals out there. I used http://www.marzouca.com/ for my Treasure Beach trip and was pleasently surprised. In Negril I stayed at a locally owened hotel.

My husband and i went to Jamaica-Montego Bay in 2002. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort for 7 days and paid $2500 including airfare. We didn't pay for scuba or snorkeling or anything that the resort had (and there was alot to do on the resort) the food was fabulous and although I don't drink alcohol it was free too. And if u r going for less than 3 weeks you only need a birth certificate not a passport.

Don't waste your money - the place sucks... Take a ride to your local hood and you'll see the same people hanging out there that you'd see hanging out on the beach..
