My ideal is when I ask a question where I believe the answer is self evident, eg:
"Is the US doing enough to alleviate global warming"
My answer would be no, and generally half the respondents will agree with me and 40% will say "goddamn hippy" or something equally insightful. But the remaining 10% will argue against my case with some sort of logic and some facts to back up their case. I love that, because it makes me question my own beliefs, and allows me to strengthen them or change them based on how convincing their arguments are.
It also is a good mental exercise to be able to refute arguments which can on the surface be fairly logical, but on closer examination don't hold water. Much more fun than EVERYBODY agreeing with you.
You just have to ignore the flamers and focus on those who have an IQ that's measurable.

Most people want their egos stroked and that's why they ask question with a certain answer in mind. I like to ask questions because I don't know what you (or the next person) are going to say--your answer reveals more about you than what you would ever tell me outright.
Either way, if I don't want to know, then I won't ask.

I've gotten a couple comments on how I am rude in my answers. I don't mean to be I'm just being honest and straight-forward. I agree with you though. If you want a certain answer, why don't you just tell us how to answer the question. It would save our time and yours. I'm not one of those people though. I accept everyone's opinion unless they are being rude to me.
