The most effective form of birth control is the Mirena IUD. Its as effective as having your tubes tied and has the least risk of side effects than any other birth control. As far as putting a foreign object in our bodies, we do a lot worse things to ourselves. Its better than people having babies they cant take care of. Personally, I love mine. I got pregnant on the pill and we love our daughter but want to wait a while to have more. The mirena also doesnt affect your future fertility so its good for people who want to have more kids someday and dont want to wait a year after coming off birth control. Its also the only birth control with no human error factor. Mirena is better for women who have had a child before though. For those who havent, the Nuva Ring is the next best as far as pregnancy protection and low risk of side effects goes. Mirena and Nuva Ring make all other ridiculous forms of birth control obsolete. Medicine has advanced very well and there is no longer a need for silly things like the shot that makes you fat or a pill that always gets forgotten
All that bad stuff they say about IUDs are about the wrong kinds. The old ones or the copper ones they have now can be really bad. There are some risks as will ALL birth control, but the risks are CONSIDERABLY lower than any other form. And NO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE IT INSERTED WHILE ON YOUR PERIOD. it just makes it slightly easier

First of all, you say foreign object like someone is putting a paperclip up there. Its a medical procedure performed by a Dr. The IUD goes into your UTERUS with a string that stays in your cervix so it can be removed.
I have one and love it. Going on 3 years with no issues. I lost 20 lbs the first 6 months because I was off the pill and since I have a copper (no hormone) IUD, I have maintained a healthy weight. I recommend it to all my friends, and in my opinion it is the most effective form of birth control without getting your tubes tied.

You have to be a good candidate to use this contraseptive... You OB/GYN will be the only one that will know...
Its does come with risks like:
heavy mentrual bleeding
spotting for the first several months
can cause infections on the uterus and cervix
it can slip out in some circumstances...
the possitive side with IUD's there are no syntetic hormones that you have to take and you don't have to worry about any birth control regimen for the next 5-10 years...

I really think that the old pills that everyone has used for years are much safer, because we have not heard of real bad things yet, unless you smoke it could cause blood clots. My friend used the one that is up in your cervix, and she told me when her and her boyfriend had sex it fell out...not a very good form of birth control if you ask me. Abstinence is the safest, but if you need a birth control, I would stick with the pills and condoms.

I don't think it's being used all that much nowadays because of the pill. It does force the woman to do all work, which i don't find fair. the IUD was one of the only forms birth control that made into a song lyric. that old Tubes song back in the seventies, called Boy Crazy. It went something like "another waitress with an IUD, boy crazy from town to town..."

IUD's are 99% effective against pregnancy and are cost effective in the long run, but like with another form of birth control. You have to be in a monogamous relationship, preferably married to reduce your chances of catching and STD. I dont think ill ever get an IUD, ill just stick to the pill for now, id be a little scared of having an object inside me, although it is safe...just not for me.

My mom had a form of an IUD and it almost killed her. It was recalled because it was causing women to become infertile and have severe problems. Fortunately, my mom listened to her body which was aching and having cramps and got the IUD removed and soon became pregnant with me. Too bad she had another child later (just kidding, I love my sister). I think the IUD she had was called the Falcon Shield. That was back in the 70s. I prefer condoms because it doesn't hurt, it's safe, no playing around with my hormones, and when I do want to get pregnant again, it's easy to stop.

I have one, it works very well, I don't even have to think about it. It doesn't hurt, but the first couple of months periods are heavier because the body is trying to flush it out. But.... I really like it, don't have to worry about pregnancy at all, although, if that 1% happens, it is usually ectopic, so that is something to watch out for. My gynecologist preached to me one day about the IUD, saying that it was a form of abortion, but I would say that it is not true. I guess the IUD makes the womb inhospitable for a egg to grow. I switched gynecologists cause he should not have told me his opinion, that was my choice, and don't see any wrong in it.

I have two friends with IUD. One it works for just fine, with irregular periods though, she still uses condoms as a back up. The other's got dislodged and is now pregnant for the fourth time.

I.UD.'s are considered an old school method that doctor's very rarely reccomend anymore.Your best bet is a combo of condoms and the pill, condoms and a depo-provera shot,or abstinence.
