Gotta have something to do during traffic lights. :) And downshifting is quite hard in an automatic. Torque kicks in manuals.

Because you do the shifting not the transmission, standards are more fuel efficient. It takes energy to do the shifting in an automatic and that means gasoline. Also by learning to get into the highest gear ASAP and still have enough engine power (RPMS) to make the car go saves gas. The less the speed the engine is running (RPMS) the less work its doing and the less fuel used. There are other good things about having a manual too. But I can't think what they are. The biggest advantage is you get a few more MPG. You were smart to take the deal and get the standard. 9 out of 10 people want automatics and the dealer will sometimes have to lower his price to move the standard. Standard transmission cars are cheaper then automatics anyway.

Manual transmissions off the driver greater control over what the car is doing in terms of engine load and rpm. In the past, automatics were controlled by a valvebody (basically a hydraulic computer) the made gear selections. This was sometimes frustrating as the trans did not always pick the right gear for the situation. Modern, electronically-controlled transmissions do a much better job of providing good gear selection in a wide variety of driving conditions. Also, until recently, manual transmissions have offered better gas mileage, although with the advent of five, six, and even seven-speed autos, that advantage has been mitigated. Nowadays, the choice is mostly personal. I much prefer manuals for the sense of driver involvement, but most cars nowadays (about 85%) come with autos.

Its stick shift all the way!! Why?
1) Vehicles with manual transmission tend to return better fuel consumption figures when compared with vehicles with automatic transmission.
2) Vehicles with manual transmission cost less than their automatic counterparts.
3) IMO, vehicles with manual transmission (given that they are maintained properly) tend to give less trouble. When they do, they can be easily resolved. Most of the time, this is not the case with autos.
4) The driver has better control of the vehicle at all times. Speed can be controlled with engine braking. With automatics, this is not possible, thus exerting greater strain and wear on the brake system.
5) An automatic will always be slower off the line. Even with left foot braking and accl. preloading.
5) Vehicles with stick shift are fun to drive!! Power shifting, double clutching, controlled drifts are not possible/very hard to perform with autos.

standard is the only way to drive
1)it sounds a lot better when ur shifting
2)better gas mileage
3)a lot more fun than auto
4)girls dig it
5)who cares if u cant talk on a cell phone? u dont need to when ur driving anway....or just spend like 30$ and get a headset
6)no, standards have higher top speeds, not auto...my precidias top speed is 200 km/h, while auto precidias are 190, this goes for any other car as well
7)automatics do have clutches too, and theyre alot more expensive to replace.
the list could go on and on, but the bottomline is....GO 5SPD/6...as long as its standard.

Automatic of course! Standard shift is so obsolete unless you plan on drag racing. You can't drive an standard shift while talking on the cell phone. And I always spill my beer when I try to drive a stick.

i think automatics are better and long lasting because you dont have to worry about worn down cluth from shifting. A standard is good for saving gas but top speeds arnt to good a standard is good for upgrading into a euro car ,but i have to say automatics are better but thats me .
