die. Do you know somweone who did die in that same situation with you, and do you feel guilty because you lived and they did not? Please give as much detail as you are comfortable with.

I witnessed my husbands murder, and had a gun to my head and it jammed. I feel blessed to be alive because of my children, but also guilty, like why was it him and not me, or why not both of us?

I will be brief and refuse to bathe in the details
two stints in Viet Nam---stuff so gritty it defies description
guilt ? very briefly--not any more
death ? young man asked me once how close I had been--
close enough to french kiss the SOB--is all I could come up with-

Sorry that stuff happened to you--it will only be better once you accept that you can't change it and decide to take your living as a hint that you have a little more to get done and it's best you are getting on with it---because there are no guarantees and just because you skipped the link once is no sign you will when the wheel comes around again--so you best be making something happen good while you can !!!!!

For a while I was very close and personal with death. I'm still here but many men I knew or knew of are dead. Some I saw expire, and yes the thought came to me many times...it could very easyly been me. I am happy to be able to continue on with my life, for my family more so than for myself. My deepest sympathy for the horrible experience you had to endure. I tell myself that in the given circumstances somebody was going to die...and others died so I wouldn't, and try to live my life in a way it would make their death worth for something.

Yes.
More than 3 times in my life, people have died from tornadoes less than a mile from me-my own father witnessed one as a child.
I have been in at least 3 auto accidents that could have been fatal.
When I was seven, my brother took me to a flooded playground where we went to school. I got sucked in a culvert, where the water drained and was hanging on to a pole, with my feet in the air, literally. Luckily, he was there, and struggled to pull me out, or else I would have been flushed.
Later in life, I was party-ing at a friends house, I decided to leave, later on that night he was robbed and two people were killed
I'm just getting started........

I've been hiking and swimming in rivers and come very VERY close to snakes. Almost crossed paths with an aligator. Almost fell off a 50 foot cliff I was rapelling down because I was stupid and forgot to lock in my carbiner all the way and my hand slipped trying to pull myself back up.

Someone pulled a gun on my sister infront of our driveway and the gun went off but missed her.

I'm sorry for your loss. Just keep strong, both for yourself and your children. And remember, Allah/God/Yahweh , whatever you may call him, is there.

No, I was alone when I thought I was going to die..but a great feeling of peace came over me..like I was just going to sleep after a long tiring day..and the pain all went away...that's as close as I can come to your story...but how difficult this must have been/is for you.

I'm sorry that is a terrible thing to experience. Survivor guilt is a well known reaction. I hope you are getting supportive frief counseling for you and your children.

I was told by a Dr that i was unlikely to survive my heart attack 18 yrs ago. I thought I only had a few more hrs and it focuded my thinking.

Very different circumstances,

I had a knife at my throat by a mugger. I got cut on the hand from it and needed 6 stitches. I saw some people down the street and thought if I hit the knife down and run and make noise he wouldn't chase me, but the blade was facing up so it sliced my hand.

YES, MY MOTHER HAD A TWIN WHO DIED AT BIRTH. SHE IS IN HER 60's NOW AND STILL FEELS GUILTY AND CRIES SOMETIMES BECAUSE SHE FEELS THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HER TO DIE AND HER TWIN TO LIVE.
ALSO, I HAVE HAD A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE TO WHERE I WAS ACTUALLY CLINICALLY DEAD FOR 3 DAYS. I REMEMBER EVERY DETAIL! HOWEVER, NOT TO BE RUDE, BUT WOULD RATHER NOT DISCUSS IT HERE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN IN PROCESS OF WRITING A TRUE STORY BOOK ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE.
ME AND MY TWO CHILDREN HAVE COME A HAIR CLOSE TO DEATH IN TWO AUTO WRECKS AND I, MYSELF WAS LOOKING STRAIGHT AT DEATH IN A CAR ACCIDENT APPROX. 4 YEARS AGO. I SAW MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN AND REMEMBER YELLING OUT TO GOD; "PLEASE, NO! PLEASE NO GOD! I DON'T WANT TO GO NOW, I WANT TO SEE THEM GROW UP AND BE WITH THEM!" SUDDENLY I FELT SOMETHING PICK MY CAR UP AND TURN IT TOTALLY AROUND FROM THE DIRECTION IT WAS GOING STRAIGHT INTO ABOUT A 5 FOOT AROUND HUGE OAK TREE! I HEARD GLASS BREAK IN THE BACK SIDE OF THE CAR. IT WAS NIGHT TIME, PITCH BLACK - I WENT SO FAR OFF THE ROAD AND INTO THE WOODS. I DID NOT HAVE A SCRATCH ON ME OR ANY BLOOD. APPROX. 6 HOURS PAST AND I DO NOT REMEMBER ANYTHING. I WAS SUDDENLY AWAKE/AWARE LOOKING AROUND AT ALL THE TALL TREES AND BUSHES SURROUNDING MY CAR. I HAD NO IDEA OF HOW TO GET BACK ONTO THE ROAD TO GET ON HOME (WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK & WENT AROUND A HILL WITH CURVE TOO FAST). I NEVER GOT OUT OF THE CAR. I JUST CRIED AND PRAYED FOR GOD TO HELP ME TO GET ALL THE WAY HOME. I CRANKED THE CAR AND DROVE IN CIRCLES UNTIL I FINALLY FOUND MY WAY TO THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD NOT STEER RIGHT IF I WENT OVER 5 MILES PER HOUR. I KEPT THE RADIO ON TO HELP ME KEEP MY MIND OFF WHAT HAPPENED. I MADE IT HOME. THANKED GOD!!!! GOT OUT AND THE WHOLE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR WAS "V'ed" IN TO THE MIDDLE AND THE WHOLE A FRAME WAS GONE! THE BODY SHOP MAN TOLD ME THERE WAS NO WAY I DROVE THAT CAR HOME LIKE THAT. HE TOLD ME I HAD IT TOWED AND WASN'T TELLING HIM. I TOLD HIM GOD GOT ME HOME!
I'VE HAD GUNS TO MY HEAD BY CRAZY PEOPLE AND ONE EXHUSBAND. GOD PROCTECTED ME AND I AM SO THANKFUL. PEOPLE THERE REALLY IS A GOD! I CALL HIM GOD, BUT MANY TIMES SAY "OUR CREATOR" BECAUSE I JUDGE NO ONES RELIGION OR BELIEFS. MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL & GOD BLESS.
I HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN THE NAME OF MY BOOK YET, BUT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEND ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS TELLING ME YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN IT IS PUBLISHED. I WILL SAVE IT AND LET YOU KNOW. uniqueoneisme@yahoo.com
