Gold is yellow, once you've seen you know it. Much of what people see along the stream bank on top of the sand is Mica or Pyrite.
Gold is soft and malleable, Pyrite and mica are brittle. Gold is not reactive in acid, Pyrite will react to vinegar
Gold is heavy, it will sink and settle into cracks and crevices..
Very seldom will you see it on the surface.
i've been prospecting for a few years and love it. Not much in the way of gold but lots of beautiful scenery!!

Gold is able to come in most colors - pale in color. Green, blue, yellow, white etc., as is seen in the ore found in the 'Black hills'. Fools gold, made up of iron and sulfur, looks like the real thing in color (right color yellow) but were you to place a small bit of it on a piece of steel, and then squash it out with a spoon, it will shatter, because it is so brittle. Real gold, no matter the color, is able to be easily formed into different shapes. Also, it will, over a period of time, dissolve into the metal mercury.

Yes!
For some top forecasts on gold’s direction, visit the site below:
I like the real GOLD nuggets.
As most gold is mined as very fine dust and tiny nuggets, the larger (over 1oz) nuggets are very rare! Actually they are as rare as large diamonds!
I would suggest you look into large nuggets!
To see the 'live' spot NY gold price and some museum size gold nuggets I suggest you visit a great site I found a few months ago. I purchase a few nuggets from them just about a month ago, and not only are they beautiful to look at but in just the last few weeks they have really moved up in value!
I'm actually saving to purchase others!

if you are panning gold in a stream its usually in black sand that you will find tiny flecks of gold it shines and looks just like it does in jewelry but its very tiny flecks, its heavier than the sand and as you slowly swirl out the water and sandthe gold flecks will settle to the bottom. have fun.

Yes it does but gold is heavy and it will not be laying on top of the sand where you can see it by eye.
