Yes luck does play a big part in getting in the door, but determination and hard work helps. If you don't have the look, then you have to go the route of such actors as Paul Giamata, Steve Buschemi and the like and really learn your craft and be a great character actor. It also helps if you have a great knack for writing. So I say it takes more than just luck. what you need to do is created your own version of "luck". Write. Go to film school and become a director, but as far as getting in front of the camera, its all about being in the right place at the right time. Can they sell you as the hero, the girl-next-door? But if you really want to get notice, be the villian.

yeah luck is partly it but you also have to have some kind of talent or a family with a lot of money and a sex tape..like paris hilton..need i say more?
