Destruction of the rainforest is from people looking for farmland. If they had a way to grow crops in the shade, like some varieties of coffee are, or if the people could find another way to make a living such as fishing or cottage based industries, they wouldn't have to cut the trees.

The rain forest is a unique ecosystem which has taken hundreds of years to evolve.Destroying it affects the climate,weather patterns and global harmony.Also the companies responsible have to deal with environmentalists who are upset about it.
