You do it at Control Panel > Windows Firewall and select On.

The firewall is supposed to do that. But I suspect the Service pack 2 firewall is also now outdated if you do not update it frequently.

I recommend a good antivirus software, NOD 32 is good. Don't use big ones like norton It'll make your machine run slow.

XP os comes with a firewall utility. You can turn it on by going to control panel>security center. The firewall can help in preventing some spyware or virus from entering your pc, but it is better to install a virus tool such as norton antivirus or mcafee virus. also, you should download some freeware for preventing spyware such as spybot or adware. In addition, you can download a free verson of a firewall tool call zone alarm.

Windows XP's firewall is total ***, so I would recommend against using it. If you want to use a firewall, a free firewall such as Zone Alarm ( http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp ) would be better.

Or, don't use a firewall. The best way to protect yourself is to be careful and use a better browser than Internet Exporer, such as Firefox at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox.

well dear windows XP can't give you complete solution as you need but it work best with any Antivirus or antispyware.

XP firewall only blocks intrusion in your system by blocking popups and blocking the unsecure ports of system.
