Because they can be!

Some people are born arrogant and rude. Someone who has been born into a wealthy family and has never had to earn or work for the money, can be arrogant and rude (not to mention naive and clueless in many things) without knowing it because they haven't known how to be anything else. It's the people who actually know and understand that they are actually blessed and come out of their self-centered bubble, who are very special. Of course, this is not the only reason. Some people feel they are far to above the rest and so do not deserve their manners. These people are delusional.

They are arrogant and rude because there is something confusing going on inside their minds. They are mentally disturbed due to some issue. This issue could be related to a problem in their family or problem with their parents or problem anywhere else in their lives. So they start behaving arrogant and rude.

Infact I have the experience of meeting such arrogant and rude person who was my friend. This person had a split family. His parents had divorced each others and they were living with their new spouses and children happily while this person used to live alone.Infact he was deprived of the happiness of a family system and this made him rude and arrogant.

Hence in my opinion situations and conditions make some people rude and arrogant.

I don't know.

Some people, mainly the younger generation regard politeness (ie P's & Q's) as un-cool. Middle-aged pratts regard good manners as a sign of servitude or weakness. Old gits simply can't be bothered to be nice anymore - they haven't got the patience for all that crap and they're disillusioned that they're not getting the respect they feel is their old-age due.

I was brought up to have good manners (we were dirt poor and it was the only real gift that my parents could give me) and on the whole they have served me well. I've never had any cause to regret my behaviour and even when things haven't gone my way I've been able to lose and withdraw gracefully.

I work in the building trade and my more experienced (female) colleague takes a very 'smack-in-the-mouth-and -you-can-f***-off-an'-all' approach to everything. She was incredibly sneering of my nice approach mainly because the guys were taking the mick, and it's true they were, I was a bit of a joke really - but now they love the fact I am respectful to them and I can get them to do anything for me. They refuse to work over-time or even just a little bit harder for her now. They don't offer her any assistance if a job goes a bit 'pear-shaped', just clock-off as soon as they can. They do make a point of saying, loudly, 'as it's you that's asking petal, I'll do it...' whenever she is within earshot and we think the message may finally be getting through.
I'm in line for promotion...

Yup, give me good manners every time - thanks mum.

Some people tend to be arrogant because they either feel some accomplishment (career, money, education, possessions, etc.) have given them some rights over others OR its a weak attempt to hide feelings that they are lower than others.

Either way, people like this love for others to know how special they are. The way to combat this is to give them NO--repeat, NO-- attention at all. If no one was there to look at them, it wouldn't be worth it to act the way they do.

It depends on the person's state of mind. Some people have the need to feel superior over other which, yes, can be annoying. (Personally I think these people need to be put in their place). It also may have to do with how that person was raised. Their parents may have passed on the "I'm right about everything" trait.

It could be any of a number of reasons.

1. They were not shown love and respect as a child
2. They never got past the "egocentric" child stage
3. They are too wrapped up in other things to bother w/ the nicities in life, like respect for others
4. They enjoy treating others badly

Who knows, just be kind and polite to them and your karma will come back to you..............plus, who knows you could brighten their day

they can't help it. they don't know how to communicate without being rude and arrogant. it also makes them feel better to make someone else feel bad.
