Larry Kramer said it best, mirroring my feelings about being Gay and the GLBT community overall, in an address to the Gay community on November 7, 2004 in NYC:

"I love being gay. I love gay people. I think we're better than other
people. I really do.
I think we're smarter and more talented and more aware and I do, I do, I totally do. And I think we're more tuned in to what's happening, tuned into the moment, tuned into our emotions, and other people's emotions, and we're better friends. I really do think all these things."

I feel the same as Larry. I know many, many more of us do too.

My brothers and sisters are among the most dynamic, the most resilient, the most innovative and we're certainly among the most brilliant to have ever graced this planet.
Whether all of us have realized it or not, we're also among the most powerful cultures our world has seen.

How do you feel about yourself as a GLBT person?

Best Wishes!

EDIT: If you want a copy of his complete speech, which is a bit lengthy, just shoot me an e-mail.
Dynamic, motivating and blasts with biting, ascerbic truth in some places.

I agree..we are God's chosen people..he chooses only 10% or so of all people to be "us". we have better bodies, better faces, are usually smarter, have better jobs, are more creative, had great houses, usually make plenty of money, have jobs we love, ...hell, we excel in just about any thing we do...and, we can dance! WE do not have beer guts with beer bottles growing out of our mouths, we can actually talk about things, ideas, ...when was the last time a straight actually had an idea??? They must be spoon fed their thoughts, their religions, their hate...in fact, they are like sheep following the nearest fool who will take their money and make them feel good about their lousy lives. Happy to be gay????Hell yes, who wouldn't be. We are the BEST argument that it is NOT a choice...if it were, what straight wouldn't choose to be Gay?

I don't put one group any higher then another group. And being bisexual I have seen the gay community be just as closed minded as the straight community. When you start thinking you are better then someone else is when the trouble starts and ignorant comes in. There are good and bad people (and some in the middle) in both groups. Being or not being GLBTQ has nothing to do with that.

Now saying that I do think the GLBTQ community is great. I think we, as a whole, have had to go though many hard times and come out stronger. Many GLBTQ people even think more openly and deeper on subjects due to this. I do have pride being bi too. We have the top spot on being open-minded and it sure is fun. We are powerful. Now we just cannot let that power go to our heads. Being thoughtful and kind to others is powerful too.

"I love being gay and I love gay people.

But I don't think we are better then anyone else. And I've seen a lot of gay people do a lot of very stupid things, so I doubt we are smarter then anyone else.

I would say that those of us who are out (really out, not just a couple people know out) are strong. But I don't need to say we are stronger then others because some people in this world overcome things that I will never even remotely have to deal with.

I think that we might be better at reading people then the average straight person, but I don't know if we are really that much more emotionally aware of ourselves. If that were the case, I think I would see much less of gay people doing stupid and emotionally damaging or bizaree things.

I think gay people are awesome because of the awesome things we do, go through, and know. Not because we know more then others, do better then others, or go through more then others. My sense of pride at being gay doesn't have anything to do with the deficiencies of others. It has to do with our own achievements.

That speech is the same as me saying how I'm smarter and better than you because I'm straight... And as far as gay (males) go I don't understand why and I think it is gross but I have nothing against gays, I just can't grasp the concept of why someone would be gay... I think with women lesbianism is a tiny bit different because women are more of a work of art then men are... Men are made for utility and work

I love being bi. My bf and I look at the same chicks and can talk about stuff "normal" couples can't. I don't get jealous if he looks at another girl, I tend to be looking too! I love my gay friends, of all the men I know, only one was not wonderful. He had issues, but was still nice when you got to know him. Most gay men are very polite and loving. Lesbians kind of intimidate me, mostly because I don't want to hit on them at the wrong time or insult them at all. Kind of like a school yard crush!

I try to stay away from supremecist views of any kind, but I do agree with the Queer Nation folks:
"We are an army of lovers for it is we who know what love is.
Desire and lust, too. We invented them. We come out of the closet, face the rejection of society, face firing squads, just to love each other!" And, honestly, that's why I like it. I think it's EASIER for us to understand what it's about. Not that straight folks can't get it, but we have a head start. We NEED to face adversity to find these things, so we're damn well going to appreciate them, know them, live them.

I've known a a lot of gay people that were really unique and smart. and Sexy!

Why don't we all wish we were gay?

But there are plenty of awesome straight people! :(

well im bisexual , i dont believe we are better people than let's just say " normal people " we are just like anyone else , expect we like different sex thats all. i dont feel like this should be a " big issue" in whos gay and whos not. i think we should just respect people decision in who they are and what they are.
