Turn him loose at the lake and get you a baby turtle....the little green babies when they are born and raise it yourself.
Tortoises are the best pet turtles I think.

It sounds like an almost full grown box turtle. It is wild, it would do much better in nature. Do you have experience w/turtles? Do you have the proper habitat for a turtle? It amazes me how many people get turtles and think they are easy/cheap pets to own. Turtles are actually very fragile and cost a lot of money and knowledge to maintain in captivity. If you don't want to bring it back to the place you found it take it to an arboretum in your area. There it will be safe and in it's natural habitat. I am not suggesting you keep it, but if you do daily handling and patience will eventually solve your problem. I have never had a turtle or tortise that bit the hand that fed it. You can buy mealworms @ any pet store, get the jumbo size. Hold the worm by the tail so it squirms in front of your turtle. Allow the turtle to come to you for the food. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET BIT! Feed the turtle no more than 2 every other day. When the turtle is comfortable w/ you being around and comming to you for food you can start feeding it other things.
As I said before I don't recommend keeping it, but if you do please do your homework! Hope this helps.

You really can't teach the boxturtle not to bite but you can learn from your turtle how not to get bit.

He (or she) bites because they can't see well and they move slowly. That means that just about anything they can find right in front of their mouth they are going to try and get a bite.

If you found it out in the road leave it alone it needs to take care of it's own self and find it family and friends. Please set it back to the while. This might be a little hard for you but do it for ur own good. That's why it's bitting you. It dosen't want to be touched at all. Let it live he own life Liberty like yours. Animals are like people they need liberty with their own needs.

let the box turtle go. they make boring pets and deserve to live their life in the wild, not captivity.

when holding it, wear a pair of thick gloves.. on the gloves.. spread some sort of ...dressing or maybe even salt.. so that when it bites, it wont like the taste..and therefor will associate that taste with biting.

hope it helps.

You don't!!
You put it back in the wild where you got it. It is not used to being around humans and really doesn't want to be now. Wildlife needs to be wild. Let it go in your yard. Maybe it will stay in the area.
LET IT GO. NOW!!!
