We know that Israel has used the US. But what advantage does the US get in funding and backing up Israel? And, what happen if the support from the US towards Israel wane?

The US as a whole doesn't get anything from Israel. All that crap about a democracy in the Middle East is bull, because Lebanon is also a democracy, and has been for years. The reason why there are militant groups in the Middle East that will attack the US from time to time is because of our unwavering support for their enemy, ISRAEL. So consequently, our support for Israel negatively impacts the US citizen, as our tax money is handed to the Israeli government, and innocent Americans become the targets of muslim militant groups. However, as it has been mentioned several times, government officials do what they can for the good of Israel. Jews, while a very small portion of the population of the US, show up in the greatest numbers at the polls, therefore the congressmen or the president appease to them the most. So while Washington D.C. loves their Jews, the rest of the nation suffers. Israel don't need our money, but we still give it to them, $3 billion at a time. Among other things we give our wonderful Israeli allies: Weapons, miltary technology, and our protection in International Diplomacy. The United States refuses to allow UN resolutions to pass that criticize Israel in any way. The US is pretty much Israels lawyer, pro bono. It's ridiculous. Israel does not do the US one ounce of tangible good. Israel is the sole reason why so many people around the world dislike us, and why 9/11 happened.

Ya know what, just today I was asking the very same question. I wonder too. Theres always some big oil interest in everything they do. They dont care about us, about how many people die including our own soldiers, theres too many bigwigs making bank. Dont blame me Im an American and I think it stinks, I didnt vote for him and I protested that day he was inaugerated.
Im for taking that 4 billion dollars we give Israel a year plus, and put it toward education. He stresses no child left behind and it is failing due to lack of funding. More and more social service nets are being cut, silently. Lets fund our own people leave the mideast to their people, wean ourselves off oil asap and we will have peace. Protect our borders, bring our resources home. Get our people out of the mideast out of harms way.
What they have in common is the "holy" land both for xtians and jews, and the tourists come. Other than that Im just not sure. I think the Amercian jews and the christians would be willling to donate funds to them if the federal funding stopped just not as much as theyre getting now. They better get used to the idea the money is running out because it is our economy is being ruined. We cant afford it anymore, we cant even afford our education system or social nets.

US has an issue with middle extremist. So does israel.
Even without US support, israel will most probably prevail. If israel loses, then it would be long before the terrorist turn their aggression against other targets - like the US. This was what happened after to the Mujahideen who eventually became the Taliban after the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan was over.

The main reason that the US supports Israel is because they have become a nuclear nation. (because we gave it to them) The US has brokered many peace agreement for Israel in a attempt to gain stability on the region. I also think that the US is still suffering from WWII guilt and not willing to admit that creating a Jewish Homeland in the Middle East was a stupid move. To be very honest as a nation the US does not receive much from Israel. They have been one of the biggest spy rings against the US for many years. Israel is always looking for there own survival and security. As a Sovereign Nation State they have every right to defend their borders and people from attack.

Israel doesn't need support from the US . Support from the UN would be nice, though. I have the feeling that I will have more relatives on the Golan Heights again. My father, 2 brothers and a sister in law were stationed there with UN peacekeeping troops in the 70's, and 2 of my cousins were on ships that were in the gulf as backup for those troops.

The sole reason that the US backs Israel is that politicians don't want to lose the Jewish vote. The Jews are very protective and loyal to their "motherland" and if a politician starts being anti-Israel, then they will make sure everyone knows it. I mean no offense to Jews.
