I just recently got hired at a place but my car went out. I am 17 years old and I don't have a car anymore. I don't have any money just yet but also I live 28 miles from my job. I have a sister that lives in town about 5 blocks from my job but when school starts up I am really going to be hitting the fan. I currently work at night most of the time. I really hate staying at my sisters because it isn't the best place to stay. I never get any sleep because of kids screaming all the time and playing, or she wakes me up at that crack of dawn every day. I have already talked to her about it but it still happens. When school comes around I can get to work, but not home or back to school. I need a car but I can't get one without a leg up and my parents can't help me because they are finanially in a rut themselves. Does anyone know of a way out of this. I really want to keep my job because I need the money.

would it be possible to ask one of your co workers if you can hitch a ride... pay for the difference in gas out of each paycheck and save your money until you can make a down payment on a car, or get yours fixed. this way you can stay at home... go to school, and go to work as well..
if not, and if you cant maybe pay your parents the gas money for them to bring you home from work (if you can get there some other way) or vise-versa parents take you, co worker bring you home then you wont have any choice but to let the job go....
if this is the case, then dont stop looking for something closer to home, at least until you can get a set of wheels....
good luck!

I sounds like you are in a tough situation. While it is not ideal, you should probably continue working and staying at your sister's during the summer. You might see if you can adjust your work schedule so that you get blocks of time off where you can go home.

After that you should try to concentrate on finishing school and maybe find a job that has a better location, if you have extra time.

Kudos for being so willing to work. It sounds as if you really need to find a more geographically friendly job. Your schoolwork is really going to suffer if you stay at your sister's. It sounds like the only variable that can be changed is your job--your sister isn't moving nor are her kids likely to quet down, your car isn't going to heal itself without money, and your school and parents aren't going anywhere either. You sound like a good worker. Somebody will be lucky to hire you. Good luck.

Keep an eye out for the tow companies in town that may have auctions. I have friends who once purchased a running car for $20. I don't know if this helps, but it is an option for you. Once you have working wheels, you can always sell or fix the car you have now.
