I have heard of a lot of things but I've never heard of anyone in the USA eating the newborn's umbilical cord, but that doesn't mean it isn't so. There's old wives tales about a lot of things and this sounds like one of them. There's also a lot of cultures and ethnic lifestyles in the world and it's possible one of them do that. I've never heard of it in the USA, but that doesn't mean not anywhere else. Apparently you are not of a culture to do this or you wouldn't be asking. I just went on line and found a LOT of sites about eating it. Very interesting--Tom Cruise is in the news again!

There are people in the eastern part of the world that do eat the cord *** it is a type of full nutirient food as they mentioned. They just prepare it like other meat, some fry it, some stir fry, some grill, and boil. All sort depends on your liking. It is said that it will bring ones beauty back by eating this cord as it has many new cell that help regenerate old cells. No scientific backing yet. So dun try it ok. Cheers.

Not to my knowledge. But they have eaten the umbilical cord of an 18 year old. It was put into a Twinkie, then eaten raw.

yes, the placenta. supposedly Tom Cruise did it at the birth of Baby Suri. I've heard people cook it first. Sounds pretty yuck....

I am not sure how it's supposed to be prepared. I would guess you'd probably filet it and fry it, maybe put some salt and pepper on it, or some A-1 sauce.
