Boasting, brawling, boozing and battling were the staples of life for the proto-rednecks who made up Beowulf's world. The saga of Beowulf exists because of the practice of men enriched by the plunder of battle of hiring performers to write sagas exaggerating their bravery and deeds of battle to be performed in the drinking and feasting halls. These performers were sometimes pretty good at both making up and performing the sagas, and "Beowulf" was one of the few sagas in Anglo-Saxon that was written down and that survived.

I used to be the funny smart one. I dumped all of my friends 3 years ago, so I suppose my role is "The one who went away".
