the olfactory senses of the users nostrils becomes saturated ...wherein after an hour they cannot sense the smell, however you can, even after eight hours on the user..in most cases the perfume or Cologne mixes with body oils and you get a suttle sweet sickness smell....lemon oil is the best if you need a perfume or Cologne....sensitive people such as yourself can detect it but most can except the smell...that's the reason lemon smell is in a lot products

Most people don't realize if they have oily skin they need to use less perfume. Dryer skinned people usually need to reapply eau de parfume due to it being watered down, so to speak, and their dry skin. Maybe people with oily skin are the ones you are running into?
My husband is one who can't stand most perfumes or even hand lotions with fragrance. Some people are just more sensitive as well as being allergic.
Anyway, there are some perfumes that gag me as well. I can't stand Eternity.
I don't think they are trying to cover up bad smells. If they don't bathe, perfume is not going to help- you would know.
Reply to ngina: cheaper perfumes do not smell stronger than expensive ones. All fragrances have notes top note is what you smell when you first put it on. I forget the other two but one is after it dries on you the other is what is left. These can all smell different so it depends when the person put it on. Usually the cheaper ones have a very strong top note then fade rather quickly. The expensive ones are the ones that last longer.

The problem is that the people are not using too much cologne (ok some are) but it is just that the cheaper the cologne or perfume, the strong the scent. Most of this people are concerned about how they smell but since they do not want to spend more, they just go for the cheaper stuff that is so strong. Unfortunately, unless the manufacture of this cheap once is banned their is absolutely nothing that can be done.

High Five! I totally agree...I have COPD and Asthma, and I was once told that the right amount of perfume to wear is applied by spraying the perfume/cologne at arm's length and walking through the mist. Be careful to point the mist left or right of you, depending on which side you are holding the bottle of perfume or cologne. If no sprayer, then dab with little finger after blotting on tissue before applying.

I'm also very sensitive about smells, especially now, when I'm pregnant. Concealing body odour with a perfume is the most awful thing... what r showers for?
some people just like strong smells and don't bother if others may not share the same passion. anyways, it;s highly bad taste to apply too much of any perfume.

OMG I wonder the same thing. I can be in the grocery store, and smell someone and have a hard time breathing. Have they ever heard less is more?
Some of it is so overpowering, and I wish they would realize it smells much better when they use just a little.

After wearing it for so long, their noses become desensitized--they can't smell it. So they put on a little more, and that works...for awhile. Then they have to put on a lot more just to know that it's there.
PLEASE PEOPLE--limit it to one spray or splash.

I understand what you are going through. If you are going to wear a fragrance that is strong, apply it on the insides of your wrist. and a dab on you neck. This is how fragrances should be worn.

because they think that they smell good...and they become desensitized to the smell and apply more and more.

I think it's maybe because they can't smell themselves!
