Given that every thing else is equal, statistically speaking, a more mature baby will have a better chance of survival than a less mature one. This is because the more mature baby has better organ functions, better weight and adipose tissue, better immunity, is able to feed better (as compared to tube feeding or intravenous nutrition) and less reliant on respirator, and oxygen (which may have serious side effects if given for a long time).

However, generally speaking, a 7 month baby does pretty well in a well equipped and well staffed hospital.

Is this question a serious one? Maybe by some odd chance the 7 month old will survive because it has a better family medical history and doesnt have any huge problems at birth (but most likely will) like premature lungs, 8 month old...better chance. Watch the Discovery Health channel and watch the baby shows, very informative,.

Both have a pretty good chance more than 90%! The farther along the better that myth about an 8 month preemie being sicker then a 7 month preemie is not true my twins were born at 30 weeks and they did pretty good although the were hospitalized for 9 weeks.

The 8 month old has a better chance because I has had more time to develop.

Does it really matter?
Who cares?
8 months isn't even premature. I mean, it IS technically, but it's not like it's premature and in danger. I was born at 8 months, one month early, And i'm fine...The idea of dying never even crossed my parents' or the doctors' minds.

7 month the baby is head down, 8 month baby has turned to head up again. So 7 month is better.

the 8 month old because its around the seventh month that the baby's lungs develop the lining they need to breathe properly, 7 month baby's used to be the ones that died most often, more than 6 month babies, even.

better chance survival at 7 months, because they are semi-fully formed, while 8 months are re-forming again
