Tough to know for sure. First may be either "Titus Andronicus" or "Henry VI, Pt. 1", though some say "Comedy of Errors" because it's such a simple obvious steal from Plautus. Anyway, those were all from about 1591. Last is probably "The Tempest" or "Henry VIII", but there's evidence of other people working on "Henry VIII", so it's hard to date--both are from about 1611 or later. Bottom line is, you'll get a lot of answers, but nobody can really prove it either way...

ADDENDUM: Katham C can't possibly be a HUGE Shakespeare fan, if he/she doesn't realize that that HUGE book on his/her desk has the plays in the order they were first published in the First Folio, NOT in the order they were written! (Tempest was first in the book; Pericles wasn't even INCLUDED in the first folio, so--in Katham C's collected works--it was clearly put after all the others.) Hint to Huge Shakespeare Fan: crack your Muse and check the dates of composition, production, and initial publication....

ADDITIONAL NOTE to Jessica H: Boy, I sure HOPE John Fletcher wrote some of "Two Noble Kinsmen" if it came out in 1623....since Shakespeare died in 1616...

While not set in stone, Shakespeare's first play appears to have been Henry VIII (Part II or III in around 1594, Part I didn't come about until 1623). His last play seems to have been The Two Noble Kinsmen (although some believe that this was in fact most written by John Fletcher) in 1623.

No one is sure of the exact dates the plays were written, but they are listed in order based on several different sources, which list Henry VI part I as the probable first and Henry VIII as the last. Hope this helps.

Id heard Loves Labours Lost was the first play. Tempest may be the last - it includes a farewell to the Globe theatre

His first written play was THE TEMPEST and his last play was PERICLES PRINCE OF TYRE. I'm a HUGE Shakespeare fan.
